Greens and Fruits

As a diabetic, your main goal is to control your blood sugar levels. Figuring out what foods are allowed and what aren’t can be difficult.
Here are some foods which you can consume to maintain your blood sugar levels.

1. Green leafy vegetables –
Leafy greens are nutritious and low in calories. They are also very low in digestible carbs which are the main cause for raising blood sugar levels. Green vegetables are also rich in antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin which protect your heart and eye health.
Include spinach, fenugreek and other leafy greens in your daily diet.

2. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is an amazing spice with healthy antioxidants. Cinnamon is known to lower blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity.

3. Eggs –
Eggs are known to improve insulin sensitivity, decrease inflammation and increase your ‘good’ HDL cholesterol while lowering your ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. Eating an egg daily keeps you feeling full for a longer time.

4. Chia Seeds and Flax Seeds –
Chia seeds are high in fibre and low in digestible carbs. This fibre helps lower your sugar levels by slowing down the rate at which food passes through your gut and gets absorbed. This makes you feel full for a longer time.
Flax seeds are made of lignans which decreases the risk of heart diseases and improves blood sugar control.

5. Nuts –
Nuts are also rich in fibre and low in digestible carbs. They help reduce blood sugar levels, insulin and LDL levels.
